Introducing the Blazers: A New Spiritwear Identity for GCCS

There is something exciting about seeing a new idea come to life — especially when that idea begins with our students.

This year, GCCS is proud to introduce the Blazers, our new team spirit identity and the inspiration behind our new line of school spiritwear.

But the Blazers didn’t begin with a logo or a piece of clothing. They began with a question:

What could represent GCCS teams and give our students an identity of their own?

It Started With Our Students

We wanted our students to have a voice in shaping what came next, so the process began with a competition inviting students to share their ideas for a new Spirit identity.

The response gave us plenty to think about, but one student submission stood out. It sparked an idea that felt energetic, bold and full of possibility — and it became the inspiration for what would eventually become the Blazers.

From there, the idea began to take shape.

Rather than simply choosing a name and putting it on a shirt, we wanted to create something that felt authentically GCCS. The initial student inspiration became the starting point for developing the Blazers theme, visual identity and final design.

A Community-Created Identity

The journey from that first student idea to the Blazers we are launching today was a collaborative one.

Staff were invited to share feedback, and perspectives as the design developed. Through those conversations, the original concept was refined and shaped into something that could work across our athletics and teams program — from t shirts and hoodies to bags and caps.

The result is a visual identity that feels bold, energetic and unmistakably GCCS, while still connecting with the character and values of our school.

It is a reminder that some of the best ideas grow when we give people a chance to contribute.

More Than Just a Name

The Blazers are about more than having a new name printed across a jersey.

We want our teams to have an identity that students can recognise, connect with and be proud to represent.

For years, our athletics program has been an important part of life at GCCS. Our students compete, encourage one another, work hard, learn how to win graciously and lose with humility, and discover that being part of a team is about so much more than what happens on the scoreboard.

The Blazers gives all of that a name and a visual identity.

It gives our students something they can wear with confidence and something our whole school community can rally behind.

Finding Our Place Among Christian Schools

As a Christian school, we are also excited about having a Spirit identity that places GCCS alongside other Christian schools in a meaningful way.

Across Christian education, school teams, especially in sports, often have strong identities that students carry with them – names, logos, colours and traditions that become part of their school experience.

We wanted GCCS to have that too.

Not because our identity is about competing with other schools, but because belonging matters. We want our students to feel that they are part of something – something that represents their school, their teammates and the community they have grown up in.

The Blazers gives us the opportunity to build those traditions here at GCCS.

Looking Ahead

This is only the beginning.

We hope the Blazers identity will grow over time into something that belongs to generations of GCCS students. We hope future students will wear a Blazers jersey and know that they are part of something that started with their school community and continued to grow through the students who came after them.

We hope it will be seen in team photos and throughout the halls of GCCS.

And most importantly, we hope the Blazers will represent the way we want our students to compete: with courage, integrity, perseverance, humility and encouragement for others.

Our teams may be known as the Blazers, but the identity behind the name is much bigger than sport.

It is about belonging.

It is about community.

It is about representing GCCS well.

And it is about giving our students something they can proudly call their own.

Welcome to the Blazers.

A new identity for GCCS. A new tradition in the making.
