A Wonderful Evening of Connection: Back-to-School BBQ & Meet the Teacher Night

Last Friday evening, our GCCS community came together for our Back-to-School BBQ and Meet the Teacher Night—and it was a wonderful way to begin a new school year together.

The evening was all about reconnecting, welcoming new families, and enjoying time together as a school community. After a summer away, it was lovely to see our school grounds filled with familiar faces, new friendships beginning, and plenty of conversation and laughter.

The BBQ was a highlight of the evening, with families gathering together over good food while students enjoyed time outside with their friends. There was lots of fun and chatter as everyone settled back into the rhythm of being together at school.

Our Grade 8 students added some extra fun to the evening by offering face painting, bringing plenty of creativity—and some very colourful faces—to the festivities! It was wonderful to see our oldest students serving and helping create a special evening for the younger students.

As the evening continued, parents were invited into the school in stages to meet their children’s teachers and visit their classrooms. This gave families an opportunity to hear about the year ahead, connect with teachers, and get a glimpse into the spaces where their children will be learning and growing this year.

Meanwhile, the students continued to enjoy the beautiful evening outside under the supervision of some of our GCCS alumni students. It was especially meaningful to see former GCCS students back at the school, now helping to care for and support the next generation of students.

From the BBQ and face painting to classroom conversations and children playing together outside, the evening was a lovely reminder of what makes our school community so special: people coming together, caring for one another, and sharing in the journey of our students.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening possible and to all the families who came out to reconnect and begin the new school year together. We are so glad to have our GCCS community back together!
