From a Grade 2 Experience to a Heart for Giving

Sometimes a classroom experience leaves a lasting impression long after the school trip is over. For Emily, now in Grade 3, a visit to the Donkey Sanctuary during her Grade 2 year was one of those experiences.

Inspired by what she learned and the donkeys she met, Emily wanted to find her own way to help. Over the summer, she spent time making handmade bracelets to sell, with the goal of donating the proceeds to the Donkey Sanctuary.

At our recent Back-to-School BBQ, Emily had the opportunity to share her bracelets with the GCCS community. Her hard work paid off — she raised $150, with every dollar going directly to support the Donkey Sanctuary.

Emily’s parents recently connected with Lori at the sanctuary to share Emily’s story and photos of her fundraising efforts. With the money she raised, Emily chose to sponsor two donkeys for the year: Melody and Dexter, with $75 going toward each sponsorship. She is now eagerly awaiting her sponsorship certificate in the mail!

What makes Emily’s story especially meaningful is the connection between her Grade 2 learning experience and the action she has taken as a Grade 3 student. Her class’ visit introduced her to a cause she cared about, and she found a creative and generous way to continue supporting it.

We are so proud of Emily for seeing a need, finding a way to help and following through with her idea. Her story is a wonderful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference — and that learning can inspire us to serve others and care for God’s creation in practical ways.

We are also grateful to the GCCS community for helping make Emily’s fundraiser possible by supporting her at the BBQ. What a wonderful example of our students taking what they learn and putting it into action!

Pledging to GCCS

Donation pledges represent the generous commitment of donors to contribute a specified amount of money to an organization over a predetermined period. These pledges can take the form of conditional donations, where payment is contingent upon the fulfillment of certain conditions, or unconditional donations, which are given without any specific requirements or stipulations.
