A Wonderful Day for Our GCCS Walkathon

What a wonderful day we had for our GCCS Walkathon last week!

We couldn’t have asked for better weather, not too hot, not too cold, but just right for getting outside and enjoying a beautiful fall day together.

Our entire school community stepped out into the fresh air and took to the streets around our local community. From our youngest Kindergarten students to our Grade 8s, every student did an incredible job!

Different grades took on different distances, with our younger students walking shorter routes and our older students taking on longer challenges. Our Grade 7 and 8 students walked an impressive 7 km, while other grades covered distances ranging from approximately 3 km and up. No matter the distance, every student showed determination, perseverance and plenty of enthusiasm along the way.

One of the highlights was seeing so many wonderful volunteers stationed along the route, cheering our students on as they passed. We were especially excited to see some of our grandparents out along the way too! Their encouragement added an extra special touch to the day and reminded us just how much our school community supports our students.

And there was plenty to keep things interesting along the route! Our Grade 1–3 students took part in a fun scavenger hunt as they walked, giving them something extra to look out for as they enjoyed the sights and sounds of the neighbourhood.

There was something special about simply being outside together, walking through our local community, enjoying the fresh air, chatting with friends and taking in the beautiful fall colours along the way.

Walking for Our School

The Walk-a-thon is also an important fundraiser for our school. Funds raised through this event help support field trips and activities that directly benefit our students; last year’s funds went towards Kindergarten playground improvements, new sports equipment, painted playground games, Gaga ball upgrades, field trips, special activities and performances.

Every sponsorship and donation makes a difference and we are so grateful to all of our families, grandparents, friends and community members who supported our students by sponsoring their walk.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible: our amazing volunteers who gave their time, our staff who organized and supported the event, our families who sponsored our students, and everyone who cheered us on along the route.

And, of course, a huge WELL DONE to all of our GCCS students! We are so proud of the way you walked, encouraged one another, challenged yourselves and represented our school community.

We’ll be sharing an update on our final fundraising total and this year’s Walk-a-thon awards later this week, so stay tuned!

Thank you for making our Walk-a-thon such a memorable day. We are grateful for every step!
