This year the Grade 7 class has learned about early Canadian history and how our country was built up. Mrs.Oussoren has not only told us what happened, but also allowed us to experience some of the major events.
First we had a huge marshmallow fight in the gym where different students represented two teams: Britain and France. Now this was not free for all, both teams had to use the strategies that their represented country used during their battles. Ultimately, the British won this marshmallow fight, but this experience really took us back in time and taught us the different approaches to war used by the British and French.
The second way that Mrs.Oussoren brought our history stories to life was through a common punishment used against Loyalists. Tarring and feathering was the process of pouring hot tar on the skin and then covering the victim with feathers. Instead of giving our whole class a third degree burn, our teacher poured warm syrup on our arms and placed feathers on the sticky substance. Getting to experience some of the things we were learning about really brought history to life for our class.
