A Day in Kinder

Kindergarten is a safe and friendly place for your children to be during the school day, but do you ever wonder what goes on during a day?

The students at GCCS can arrive as early as 8:05 and enjoy play time in the Kinder playground under the watchful eye of one or two of our staff members. During this time, they are able to slowly begin their school day, interacting with others and God’s world.

At 8:30 the bell rings and all the students grab their backpacks and head inside. The students are warmly welcomed by their teacher and classroom support staff and once they have changed into their indoor shoes, they enter the classroom.

Our days are busy. We enjoy Bible, singing and dancing, story telling, physical education, music, math, language, art and so much more. Every day is different and often schedules get changed to best meet the needs of the students.

Our goal is to create an environment that allows your child to learn while experiencing the world around them. This may involve nature walks, butterflies in the classroom, dramatic play, sensory play centres, varying art mediums and so much more. Indoor and outdoor time is filled to the very brim with exciting and fun activities that have been carefully planned for the students in our classes.

During the day, we stop our activities for two lunch breaks followed by recess. We also have a brief Quiet time following our second recess. This gives the students an opportunity to rest just long enough to feel ready for the rest of the day.

Weekly activities do include; chapel, reading buddies and visits to the library.

We believe that family involvement and the home/school connection are vital for your child to feel successful and content at school. As parents of students in Kinder at GCCS, you receive weekly communication about the week ahead. This includes curriculum information, special event details and information of any supplies or materials your child may need at school.  We want you to be prepared and to know what happens in Kindergarten.

We also want to hear from you. At the beginning of the year, we ask you  to tell us about your child, “in a Million words or less.” We welcome and encourage parents to volunteer in our classrooms and on trips. We also love hearing from you. Communication is key.

Kindergarten is a wonderful place to be. To see more of our Kindergarten day check out our Kindergarten instagram page.
