This week, our Grade 6 students led a thoughtful and inspiring chapel that explored one of the most remarkable truths about Jesus: He turned the world’s expectations upside down.
Through drama, narration, and dance, the students helped us see how Jesus’ Kingdom operates differently from the kingdoms of this world. While the world often values power, status, and getting even, Jesus taught and demonstrated humility, compassion, forgiveness, and love.
One skit portrayed Jesus healing the lepers—people who were marginalized and avoided by society. Another powerful scene focused on Judas’ betrayal and the moment when Jesus healed the servant’s ear after Peter struck him with a sword. Even in the face of betrayal and violence, Jesus responded with mercy and love, showing us what it means to love our enemies.
After the skits, student narrators shared other examples of Jesus’ upside-down way of living. They reminded us that Jesus welcomed the outcast, served others rather than seeking recognition, and taught His followers to forgive as they had been forgiven. Time and again, Jesus challenged the values of the world and invited people into a better way of living.
The chapel concluded with a beautiful choreographed dance performed by all of the Grade 6 girls to God’s Upside Down Kingdom by Minno Bible Stories for Kids. Their joyful performance brought the message of the chapel to life and provided a fitting celebration of the values of God’s Kingdom.
As we watched, we were reminded that living for Jesus is truly a wonderful way to live. His Kingdom calls us to love when it is difficult, forgive when it is costly, and serve when it would be easier to focus on ourselves. In doing so, we reflect the heart of our King.
This chapel was also a meaningful way to bring closure to our school theme for the year: “For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever.” Throughout the year, we have been learning what it means to live as citizens of God’s Kingdom, and the Grade 6 students provided a beautiful final reminder that His upside-down Kingdom is one of grace, hope, love, and transformation.
