Our GCCS Cross Country team has had an incredible season, filled with hard work, perseverance, and memorable moments on and off the course. Students from Grades 3–8 have shown dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship at every meet, making our school community proud.
Event 1 – Local Cross Country Meet, October 2nd
What a fantastic day it was for our runners at the first meet of the season! The sun was shining, the energy was high, and our students brought their best effort to every race. Highlights of the day included:
- 3rd place overall – Girls Senior
- 2nd place overall – Boys Junior
While these results were impressive, what stood out even more was the support and encouragement our students showed to one another. Older students cheered on younger teammates, classmates encouraged each other to keep going, and everyone celebrated both personal achievements and the successes of others. Our runners even cheered for athletes from other schools, showing a level of sportsmanship and character that truly embodies the values we strive to cultivate at GCCS.
Coaching this group has been a joy. Watching students grow in confidence, stamina, and focus has been inspiring. Whether crossing the finish line first or simply giving their all for personal improvement, every student’s effort was celebrated, and the sense of community and camaraderie was evident throughout the day.
Event 2 – Cross Country Championships, October 9th
Later in the month, our team took on the Cross Country Championships, a larger meet featuring 29 Christian schools from across Ontario. While the morning was a little cool, the weather was perfect for running, and our students were ready to put their training to the test.
The Championships were a fantastic opportunity for our runners to experience competition at a higher level, meet new friends, and continue building teamwork and resilience. Highlights included:
- 3rd place – Junior Boys division
- 15th place – Senior Girls division
- 18th place – Senior Boys division
With so many schools participating, the races were challenging, and each student’s commitment and effort stood out. Our runners demonstrated perseverance, determination, and a true sense of team spirit, supporting one another on and off the course. The pride in their faces as they finished each race said it all.
We also want to extend a huge thank you to our parent volunteers and supporters, who came out to cheer, offer encouragement, and help ensure the day ran smoothly. Your support and enthusiasm made a significant difference and added to the excitement and joy of the event.
This cross country season has been about so much more than medals or placements. It has been a celebration of effort, growth, and the joy of running together. Our students have learned valuable lessons about perseverance, teamwork, and encouraging others—skills that extend far beyond the finish line.
We are incredibly proud of our GCCS Cross Country team and grateful for the dedication of every athlete, coach, and supporter who made this season such a memorable one. Here’s to running, growing, and thriving together—Go GCCS!
