What an unforgettable night of culture, connection, and community! Our recent Around the World Community Dinner & Live Auction was a beautiful celebration of the rich diversity that makes GCCS such a vibrant place to learn, grow, and belong.
Families stepped into a gym transformed with colour, décor, and the warm buzz of conversation. In the library, guests circulated among a global spread of dishes representing South Korea, Turkey, South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Jamaica, Iceland, The United Kingdom, and Italy. The aromas, flavours, and creativity behind each dish reflected not only the traditions of our families but also the generosity and joy they poured into sharing them. Everywhere you looked, people were trying new foods, and delighting in old favourites.
We began the evening with a highlight everyone was looking forward to—the dessert auction. Our Grade 8 students, full of enthusiasm, carried the desserts around the room, showcasing each masterpiece with flair. Tables erupted into friendly bidding battles as stunning cakes, delicious desserts, and decadent pies made their way to excited bidders. Many desserts were immediately shared among table mates, while others were carefully boxed up for families to enjoy later at home.
After the online auction officially closed, the excitement shifted to our live auction, and the energy was electric. Our auctioneer, whose humour and quick wit kept everyone engaged, guided us through a lineup of 12 unique items—each one donated with love and creativity. From handcrafted pieces to special experiences, there was something for everyone. One of them included the coveted reserved parking spot for the rest of the school year, which never fails to spark interest.
The live auction was not only incredibly fun but also a tremendous success, with every item sold and the room filled with laughter, generosity, and genuine excitement.
Throughout the night, what stood out most was the sense of togetherness. Parents from across grades, new families and long-standing ones, staff, volunteers, and supporters all came together to celebrate—to eat, to connect, to support, and to enjoy each other’s company. Events like this remind us how strong and beautiful our GCCS community truly is.
A heartfelt thank-you to every family who cooked, donated, served, planned, bid, sponsored, cleaned up, or simply joined us for the evening. You made this night unforgettable.
We are deeply grateful—and already excited for next year.
