Finding the Voice of the Glockenspiel

There is an instrument that sits in the corner of the music room. An instrument that has lost its voice. Once, its metal bars sang brightly, their notes filling the room with music. But over time, with pieces missing and parts left untended, the glockenspiel had grown quiet, waiting for someone to restore its song.

Enter two Grade 6 boys who noticed the silent glockenspiel and decided that silence wasn’t its final tune. What others saw as broken, they saw as an opportunity—a challenge worth taking on.

Armed with curiosity and determination, the boys rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Piece by piece, they examined the glockenspiel, figuring out what needed to be fixed, replaced, or cleaned. Dust was wiped away, stray screws were tightened, and bars were carefully adjusted. It wasn’t easy, but they stayed focused, pouring time and effort into their mission.

In the process, the glockenspiel slowly began to find its voice again. The once-silent instrument started to hum with promise, its notes clearer and brighter than they had been in years. The boys’ perseverance turned a forgotten corner of the music room into a space of renewal, reminding all of us that even the quietest things can sing again with a little love and attention.

This small act of restoration wasn’t just about fixing an instrument—it was about showing what it means to care deeply, take initiative, and use the gifts God has given us to bring life to the world around us.

The glockenspiel, now ready to join in the music once more, stands as a reminder to all of us: where some see brokenness, others see potential. And with a little focus, determination, and hope, even the quietest corners of our lives can sing again.

Thank you to these Grade 6 boys for being wonderful examples of diligence and care. You’ve not only restored an instrument but inspired a community.
